Manual by design
You observe the patient and mark each breath. The app does not automatically detect breathing.
One purpose
A focused workflow for respiratory rate determination, without unnecessary distractions.
Clear context
Methodology and safety guidance stay close to the result and support clinical interpretation.
How it works
A familiar observation.
A more focused workflow.
Respi-Rate turns manually observed breath intervals into an estimated respiratory rate. You remain in control of when each breath is recorded.
Observe
Watch the patient’s breathing pattern and choose a consistent phase of the respiratory cycle.
Press
Press the Lungs button each time the patient begins to inhale.
Interpret
Review the estimated rate and apply the displayed safety guidance in the clinical context.
Interactive Rhythm Lab
Set the rhythm.
Test Respi-Rate.
Create a known breathing pattern, then use Respi-Rate on your iPhone to determine its respiratory rate. Change both the frequency and the inspiratory-to-expiratory ratio.
The rhythm updates immediately and continues running while this page is open.
16 breaths/minI:E 1 : 2.0 · Experimental
Open Respi-Rate on your phone.
Watch the animated lungs as you would observe a patient. Press the Lungs button in the app at the beginning of each inspiration, then compare the result with the reference rhythm.
Get Respi-RateDemonstration only. This animation is a reference rhythm for testing the manual workflow; it does not simulate a patient or replace clinical evaluation.
Respi-Rate Pro
More context from
every determination.
Extend the focused core workflow with documentation and assessment tools. Start with a 7-day free trial, then choose Lifetime Pro if it fits your practice.
Measurement history
Save and review previous respiratory rate determinations on your device.
Breathing regularity
Assess the consistency of recorded breath intervals with a clear three-star result.
I:E assessment Experimental
View the ratio of manually recorded inhalation and exhalation durations.
Age-based ranges
Compare the determined respiratory rate with age-specific reference values.
Dark Mode
Use an appearance optimized for low-light environments.
Haptic Feedback Supported devices only
Receive a subtle tactile response when a breath is recorded. With experimental I:E assessment enabled, a second response marks when the Lungs button is released.

No subscription. No auto-renewal. No automatic charge. The trial ends on its own, and basic respiratory rate determination remains free.
Methodology & safety
Know what the result means.
Respi-Rate supports respiratory rate determination. It does not replace direct observation or clinical judgment.
“With a regular breathing pattern, the algorithm continues collecting intervals until the estimated respiratory rate reaches an accuracy of 95% ± 1 breath per minute.”
Do not use Respi-Rate to determine respiratory rate when the patient’s breathing is irregular.
Interpret the respiratory rate only when the assessment reaches 3 stars. If fewer than 3 stars are achieved, repeat the determination.
The I:E assessment depends on the accuracy of manual button presses and does not establish a diagnosis.
